New Delhi: Due to Corona epidemic many traditions already established are being broken and many new traditions are also beginning. Similarly, a new tradition started in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Actually, something happened on Thursday in Rashtrapati Bhavan that had never happened till date in its 70-year history. On 26 January 1950, Dr Rajendra Prasad took charge as the first President of the country at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

After which, today President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the identity cards of the ambassadors / high commissioners of seven nations on Thursday through digitally i.e. video conferencing. This had to be done due to restrictions due to Corona crisis. Diplomats from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Senegal, Trinidad and Tobago, Mauritius, Australia, Côte d'Ivoire (formerly Ivory Coast) and Rwanda presented their documents via digital link.

President Ram Nath Kovind has termed the presentation of digitally enabled identity cards as a special day. He said that "today is a special day in India's contact with the diplomatic community in New Delhi." Initially, the plan was that the diplomats would present the identity cards from their respective embassies. But to ensure that the protocol-bound ceremony was conducted properly, all 7 diplomats were taken to the Jawahar Bhawan headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs. Presented their papers via videoconferencing.
