Abbas had earlier contested the 2017 assembly elections from Ghosi seat in Mau district on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. However, then he was defeated by BJP candidate Fagu Chauhan.

Abbas Ansari, who is fond of shooting, has many different types of weapons as well as movable and immovable property worth crores. According to the affidavit submitted along with the nomination, a total of 5 cases are registered against Abbas Ansari. According to the affidavit of Abbas Ansari, he has a total of 8 arms licenses, which are currently in the possession of the police and STF.

According to the affidavit, Abbas Ansari's wife has jewelery worth Rs 12 lakh 50 thousand. Whereas, Rs 4 lakh 69 thousand 499 are deposited in 6 bank accounts of Abbas Ansari. Whereas Abbas has 1 lakh 75 thousand rupees and his wife has 75 thousand rupees in the form of cash. Abbas Ansari has total assets of 8 crore 5 lakh 88 thousand rupees including total land and building.
