The third "Annual Waterbird Census 2022" was held in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary by the Guwahati Wildlife Division of the Assam Forest Department and Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation group.

The census' principal goal was to count waterbird species in order to collect data on them and conduct long-term monitoring for long-term conservation. "This year's census exercise recorded 56 species of water birds, with a total count of over 8,000 two hundred (8200) individuals of various kinds, including both migratory and residential birds," according to the statement.

This census is an annual event that has been held for the past three years with enthusiastic participation from all corners, according to the official. Around 30 persons engaged in the census, including forest department employees, Aaranyak members and staff, and other volunteers. The Guwahati Wildlife Division's Divisional Forest Officer, Jayashree Naiding Tonk, welcomed the participants and described the significance of the census.
