An 18-year-old girl who was studying in high school consumed poison and died at her residence in Yeshwanthpur. The reason behind her suicide came in light is that her boyfriend broke up with her on Tuesday.

The girl lives on Triveni Road in Yeshwanthpur. She was in a relationship with a boy who was pursuing polytechnic for the last one year.

According to police the accused, teenager’s boyfriend had promised to marry her, but on Tuesday he called her and told her that he was breaking up with her. He immediately disconnected the call.

The girl tried to call him repeatedly to know the reason, but he had switched off his phone. The girl then consumed poison (pesticide) while she was alone at home. When her parents returned home from work on Tuesday evening, found her unconscious and rushed her to a private hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

Aggrieved parents and other family members of the girl tried to trace the boy and thrashed him before handing him over to the Yeshwanthpur police.

The police have taken up a case of abetment to suicide against the accused and are investigating. Soon after completing the investigation the police will submit the charge sheet of the case in the court.
