Gold Coast: Indian wrestler Babita Kumari clinched Silver in women's 53-kilogram wrestling competition at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Australia's Gold Coast on Thursday. Canada's Diana Weicker defeated Babita Kumari to win gold. Abita lost 2-5 to the Canadian wrestler.

 Worth mentioning here this is India's 26th medal overall, including 12 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze, at the 21st Commonwealth Games.

Haryana wrestler's clinched third consecutive medal at Commonwealth Games as she had bagged silver medal in 2010 Delhi's Commonwealth Games in 51 kg weight class and a gold medal in 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 55 kg weight class.

Babita started off by defeating Bose Samuel from Nigeria in her opening short time. Babita shook off a sturdy start by the Nigerian to settle a 3-1 win.

Samuel had taken the early lead but Babita pulled off a two-point. She earned another point with a record to strengthen her lead.

Babita was even more dominant in her next bout, beaten Sri Lanka's Deepika Dilhani by fall early in the first period.

President Kovind took his twitor handle to congratulate the Dangal girl and said,

“Congratulations to Babita Kumari for winning a SILVER in Women's Freestyle 53Kg Wrestling (Nordic System). India's first wrestling medal at #GC2018 #”.
