New Delhi [India], Feb 4: Young skipper Aiden Markram blamed poor execution, rather than the absence of a game plan against India's wrist spinners, after South Africa crashed to their lowest ODI total on home ground in his first match as captain of skipper. The Proteas were shot out for 118 runs in just 32.2 overs as they lost eight wickets to spin at Centurion, before India cruised to a nine-wicket win to go 2-0 up in the six-match series.

The chastening experience followed on from the defeat at Kingsmead, where spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav took five of the seven wickets that fell to bowlers. South Africa's struggles in that match, which they lost by six wickets, led many to question whether they have the wherewithal required to take on the duo's wrist spin. After another poor performance, Markram insisted that the batsmen have plans in place but need to execute them better.

"I don't think there's too much of a lack of a game-plan," he said. "If you speak to each individual in our top six or top seven, each person has got a clear plan. So it obviously comes down to execution on the day. Like I said, they are two quality wrist spinners and we give them credit. But I still think we can execute better, and that's the nice thing. It's not that something that's drastic that has to change - the plans are in place, now we've just got to keep working hard to execute that's all."
