Swara Bhaskar is a talented actress of Bollywood and a great feminist too. In her history, she was in controversy too for her various remarks on feminism or sexual harassment. This time when she appeared in an interview at Express Adda on 28th May she talked about her recent movie Veerey Di Wedding and casting couch incidents in Indian cinema along with the viral topic, feminism.
After Harvey Weinstein case, there were a lot of names that came out for this cruelty. While answering about such incident she narrated that a man who termed himself as a manager of some renowned producer regularly asked her about her residential address. She tried to escape out from the unwanted condition and expressed: “When I got out this guy actually tried to kiss my ear and said ‘I love you baby’ and I kind of did that (gestures shirking away) so he got a mouthful of my hair so I was just like… so that kind of stuff happens. It’s all a part of the casting couch, right?” Hear the anecdote in her own words:
While answering a question from audience side about the traditional women who are conservative and not putting feminism as their priority Swara replied: “Feminism is about a thought that there should be equality amongst the genders. And equality not just of representation but equality of opportunity and equality of accountability, which is something that not just women but a lot of communities in India have not had, whether it is caste, whether it is women. And for me, feminism is about giving women choice. So if some women choose to be conservative or choose to deny themselves their own rights, what can I say? I think it is completely legitimate to ask those women that why do they want to tie themselves down?”
