Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders played in the 18th match of the IPL Season 11, which was interrupted due to rain, the Punjab team defeated KKR by 9 wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis Rule. After winning the toss in this match, the Punjab team invited Kolkata to bat first. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 191 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs and set a target of 192 for a win against Kings XI Punjab.

In reply, the Punjab team scored 96 runs without any losses in 8.2 overs after which the play had to be stopped due to rain .After rain, Punjab got a revised target of 125 runs in 13 overs. To win the match, Punjab were to score 29 runs on 28 balls, which the team achieved 11 balls before being 126 for one wicket. For Punjab, Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 62 off 38 balls while Rahul scored a 60-run knock in 27 balls.

Earlier, Kolkata opener Chris Lynn scored 74 runs and captain Dinesh Karthik scored 43, which helped Kolkata Knight Riders score a solid 191 for Kings XI Punjab. Lynn faced 41 balls and hit six fours and four sixes. This is the fourth half-century of Lynn in the IPL. Robin Uthappa scored 34 runs off 23 balls with five fours and a six, while Karthik hit six fours in 28 balls.
