Kabul blast: 26 killed, 18 injured in suicide bombing attack

Kabul [Afghanistan], Mar 21 (NT): At least 26 people were killed and 18 others injured in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan's capital city, Kabul on Wednesday.

According to Tolo News, the Afghan officials have confirmed the death toll.

However, the death toll might rise.

Police chief Abdulhamid Chakari said a car bomb was used in today's blast at the Kart-e-Char area in PD3 close to Ali Abad hospital and Kabul University.

The explosion happened at about mid-day on Wednesday, at the first day of Nawroz ,the Persian new year.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed a suicide bomber spark off his explosives close to the Ali Abad Hospital and Kabul University at around mid-day.

The MoI has confirmed 26 killed however Kabul's acting police chief Dawood Amin said 23 people were killed and 25 were injured.

Isteqlal Hospital's chief, Saber Naseeb, confirmed that 15 injured people have been taken to his hospital.

 TOLO news journalists at the scene said that they saw many bodies lying on the ground soon after the blast.

The area was straight away cordoned off by security forces and dozens of ambulances were seen ferrying casualties to hospitals.

 Till now No group has yet accepted responsibility for the incident but the Taliban has discarded their involvement in the attack.

Eyewitnesses reportedly stated all casualties were civilians.
