MEA gives rest to the reports of India-Myanmar international boundary shifting

Reports which claimed that Indo-Myanmar border pillar has been shifted into Indian territories termed to be wrong by Raveesh Kumar, The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson. On Sunday, Kumar denied such allegations and stated: "We have come across media reports stating that certain boundary pillars in the Manipur sector of the India-Myanmar international boundary have been allegedly shifted. These reports are completely baseless and unsubstantiated. This sector of the international boundary is settled and there is no confusion as to its alignment.”

Reports previously suggested that Moreh sub-division of Manipur faces some disturbed conditions due to the reports of shifting boundary pillars into Indian territory. Yesterday, to resist disruption prohibitory orders were imposed in the affected areas.

Notably, India and Myanmar with the objective of appraising the local residents of both the nations have jointly organized a routine survey which also includes the construction of ancillary pillars in between the main boundary pillars 81 and 82 along the zero line. The line is agreed and settled international boundary. The state government of Manipur also assisted and witnessed the whole practice.

While referring the exercise as India-Myanmar Boundary Agreement of 1967 MEA stated that “This work is in consonance with the provisions of the India-Myanmar Boundary Agreement of 1967, to which both governments are fully committed.”
