UNITED NATIONS: Britain has a pat on the back ofJustice Dalveer Bhandari on being re-elected to the International Court of Justice and stated it will continue to cooperate directly with India in the United Nations and worldwide.

Bhandari was re-elected to the last seat of the Hague-based ICJ after Britain take out its nominee from the election.

India's candidate Bhandari received 183-193 votes in the General Assembly and held all the 15 votes in the Security Council after separate and synchronized elections were apprehended at the UN headquarters in New York.

Britain's Permanent Envoy to the United Nations Matthew Rycroft, in a declaration, told it decided to take out Sir Chris Greenwood as a nominee for re-election as a Judge of the International Court of Justice.

"The UK has fulfilled that it is wrong to keep on taking up the precious time of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly with additional rounds of elections," he quoted

Earlier, it came into sight that there was a neck-and-neck game between Bhandari and Greenwood.

"We are obviously disappointed, but it was ready for action field with six brawny candidates," Rycroft stated.

"If the UK could not come first in this run-off, then we are delighted that it is a close comrade like India that has done so as a replacement for. We will continue to assist closely with India, here in the United Nations and worldwide," he insisted.

Rycroft stated that the UK will keep on to support the work of the ICJ, "in line with our assurance to the importance of the regulations of law in the UN system and in the international community more in general".
