Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC) is in the considerable discussion. There is a lot of politics and debate on this. It is being said that Assam is the first state to take initiative in NRC and now the rest of the states are also demanding NRC. But you will be surprised to know that NRC has already been prepared in all the states of the country.

In fact, after the partition of the country, it was necessary to know how many people in the country have been in the country legally. So in the year 1951, after independence, a National Register of Citizens was prepared throughout the country. It was prepared in all states. Thus, the NRC which is being prepared in Assam is not new, but the NRC of 1951 is being updated.

In the year 1951, the census was conducted across the country, in which information about the order of all the houses in every village and people living in it, was obtained. After this, the National Register of Citizens was created with the help of this census. After preparing this register, it was placed on the instructions of the Central Government in all the deputy commissioners and SDM offices of the areas. Later in the 1960's, the registers were handed over to the Police Department.
