Pakistan PM Imran Khan lays foundation stone for Kartarpur Corridor; two Indian ministers present

Kartarpur/Chandigarh: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone for the Kartarpur Corridor on Wednesday. Worth mention here three days before India performed the groundbreaking ceremony on its side in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other Senior Pakistani officials were in attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony held at Narowal in Kartarpur. From India Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri, and Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu marked their presence.

Union ministers Badal and Puri reached Pakistan on Wednesday to be present at the groundbreaking ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor while Punjab minister Sidhu had reached Kartarpur yesterday. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was also invited by the Pakistan government for the ceremony but she had expressed her inability to travel and instead nominated Puri and Badal to be present at the ceremony.

The Kartarpur Corridor aims to permit visa-free travel for Indian Sikh pilgrims to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib The project is likely to be completed within six months. The foundation stone for the corridor was laid in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Monday by Indian Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

Pakistan Foreign Office talking head Muhammad Faisal has stated that the work on the corridor will be ended in time for the 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in November next year.
