Russia-India-China (RIC) summit: Doklam standoff discussed

Beijing: The Doklam confrontation had put "relentless stress" on India-China ties although the topic was set in the course of diplomatic means, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj throughout their get-together in the national capital New Delhi.

The bilateral ties went through a severe test after Indian border armed forces "illegitimately encroach" into the Chinese territory in June, Wang asserted  Sushma Swaraj on Monday.

The Chinese foreign minister was present in New Delhi to attend the Russia-India-China (RIC) Foreign Ministers' summit.

Even though the confrontation ended in the long run in the course of diplomatic means more than two months later, lessons must be learned and attempts must be made to stay away from such an incident in the future, said Wang, whose remarks were posted on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website on Tuesday.

"The standoff put the bilateral relations under severe pressure,” The statement was read.

Wang said that the India-China relations are at a decisive period and the most significant thing between the two nations is to cultivate communal trust in actual fact.
