Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India today, will participate in 19th India-Russia annual bilateral summit

New Delhi :India and Russia are expected to ink about 20 agreements in areas ranging from defense, nuclear energy, space and economy during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to India which will start from Thursday. President Putin is programmed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

One of the anticipated upshots will be the joint India-Russia counter-terrorism exercise, Indra-2018.It is set to be held from November 18 to 28. On Tuesday, Putin’s top foreign policy adviser Yury Ushakov had confirmed that the Russian President will watch over the signing of the S-400 air defense systems deal. Worth mention here this was the first official confirmation from the Russian government at the highest level of the deal. The pact is worth more than $5 billion.

71 year old Ushakov is an experienced diplomat. He was appointed Putin’s aide in 2012 and was Russia’s ambassador to the US for 10 years from 1998.

Talking about The S-400 deal has been landed in a diplomatic outrage between the United States and Russia. On a related note Washington threatened New Delhi and other partners that it sanctions if their defense deals with Russia go through.

Ushakov told reporters in the capital city Moscow that Russia and India plan to sign more than 20 documents at the end of the summit.
