Second session of the G-20 Summit: India proposes 9-point action plan to deal with fugitive financial offenders

G20 Summit 2018: India has presented a nine-point action plan for a strong and active teamwork across the G-20 countries to deal firmly with fugitive economic offenders and smooth the progress of asset recovery. India also pitched strong legal processes for successful freezing of proceeds of crime and early return of lawbreakers.
 “There was a need for a joint effort by member countries to form a mechanism that denies entry and safe havens to all fugitive economic offenders,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quoted by news agency IANS as saying at the second session of the G-20 Summit on Friday. 
PM Modi is at present in Argentina to be present at the eighth edition of G20 Summit. The PM also suggested that the G-20 forum should mull over initiating work on locating properties of economic offenders who have tax debt in the nation of their home for its recovery.
 “Cooperation in the legal processes such as effective freezing of the proceeds of crime, early return of the offenders and efficient repatriation of the proceeds of crime should be enhanced and streamlined,” he stated.
PM Modi further nodded that the main beliefs of UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNOTC), in particular related to worldwide cooperation, should be completely and effectively executed.
As per PM Modi, there is a require to call upon a Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in order to allocate priority and center of attention to establishing international cooperation that leads to a timely and comprehensive exchange of information between proficient authorities and Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs). PM Modi  presented his nine point agenda, saying FATF should be tasked to devise a standard definition of fugitive economic offenders.
