A man is arrested by Chennai police on Friday for allegedly abducting and marrying a 15-year-old girl. The girl's father who is employed at a private firm lodged a complaint on 20th April at Pallikaranai police station that his daughter had gone missing.
Police officers started the search for the girl from then. The family of the girl lives in Kovilambakkam and the girl was studying at a government school in the same area.
The girl and the man were traced by the Chennai police in Vellore district. After the police officials got the information that the girl could be in Vellore district, they found her and the man. The suspect is identified as R.Gandhi at Ambur in Vellore district. He was immediately arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) and remanded in Puzhal jail. The girl is undergoing medical tests.
The accused man R.Gandhi was working as an electrician and hailed from MGR Nagar where the girl also resided. On April 20, he took her and married her in one of the temples on the way to Ambur. Police are doing the further investigations in the case and soon they will file the charge sheet against the accused.
