New Delhi: On Thursday, a Parliamentary Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice will meet in Parliament to discuss the 'The Mediation Bill, 2021,' which intends to promote and facilitate mediation, particularly institutional mediation.
On the demand of the Opposition parties, the Central government introduced the 'Mediation Bill, 2021' in Rajya Sabha for further consideration in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice in December 2021.
The bill also aim to resolve commercial and other disputes, enforce mediated settlement agreements, and establish a body to register mediators. The bill's goal is to promote community mediation and make online mediation a viable and cost-effective option. The Ministry of Law and Justice released a draught of the Mediation Bill, 2021 for public opinion and consultation on November 5, 2021.

The Bill was introduced shortly after India signed the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (Singapore Convention), with the goal of solidifying mediation's status as a preferred means of alternative dispute resolution in India.
Among its many goals are the promotion, support, and facilitation of mediation, particularly institutional mediation, the enforcement of domestic and international mediation settlement agreements, and, most importantly, the acceptance and cost-effectiveness of online mediation.
