In the early hours of Tuesday, a man was shot by Dibrugarh Police while reportedly attempting to loot an SBI ATM near Military Engineering Service in Chabua, Dibrugarh district.
Bitu Bhumij (23) of Chabua's Bismile area was identified as the suspect. "Chabua police began an operation after receiving a tip and discovered a troublemaker attempting to break into an ATM. With his machete, the assailant attacked police officers. To capture the offender, the police had to open fire in reprisal. "During the gunfire, he was hurt," a police source stated.
"After midnight, we received information from SBI that one of their ATMs located at Chabua near MES Tiniali had been vandalised and hacked by miscreants,"SP Bitul Chetia said.
He allegedly attacked police officers with his "Dao," forcing officers to shoot him in retaliation. "He was shot in the ankles and is being treated at the Assam Medical College and Hospital," according to the ASP. Unidentified individuals robbed another State Bank of India ATM location in Nagaon's Raha on Monday.According to police, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Monday.
