New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from East Delhi seat, on Friday alleged that her opponent and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Gautam Gambhir has two voter cards in two separate neighbourhoods in the national capital. In a series of tweets, Atishi alleged that Gautam Gambhir is a registered voter in Delhi's Karol Bagh as well as Rajinder Nagar.

"I have filed a criminal complaint against the BJP candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over his possession of two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar," she tweeted. "Under Section 17, read with Section 31, false declaration in the matter of electoral rolls is punishable with jail time of up to one year," the AAP candidate said with the hashtag #GambhirApradh.

Reacting to Atishi's charges, Gambhir said: "The AAP makes such allegations. Then they go to court and apologise." Earlier this week, the AAP had sought rejection of Gambhir's nomination alleging a discrepancy. Gambhir filed his nomination from East Delhi on a BJP ticket on Tuesday. "The stamp paper which has been furnished is dated April 23, 2019 whereas the notarial stamp on two of his affidavits have a date of April 18 and April 19 respectively," Atishi alleged in a statement.

The returning officer had sought Gambhir's response and later dismissed the objection saying there is substantial compliance in his papers. Gambhir joined the BJP last month and was named the party's candidate from East Delhi earlier this week. The East Delhi Lok Sabha seat will witness a triangular contest between Gambhir, Atishi and Congress's Arvinder Singh Lovely. The Lok Sabha elections in Delhi's seven constituencies will be held on May 12. The results will be declared on May 23.
