Dehradun: Political parties have started a rage to form new cities in Uttarakhand just before the assembly elections. Experts are giving it an example of the electoral raga. In the previous BJP government, it has been announced to make Didihat, Yamunotri, Kotdwar, and Ranikhet districts, but in the ruling BJP and Congress governments, the matter of formation of new cities was put in cold storage. In past, senior Congress leader former Chief Minister Harish Rawat announced the formation of four new districts in two years after the Congress government was formed in the state and now Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal in Kashipur created ruckus to the issue by announcing the formation of half a dozen new districts when the government is formed.

Political parties have been announcing the creation of new districts since the formation of the state. But even after 21 years, the puzzle of the formation of new districts has not been solved. At present, Uttarakhand has two divisions, 13 districts, 110 tehsils, and 18 sub-tehsils. In 2011, the then CM Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had announced on August 15 that Kotdwar, DDHat, Yamunotri, and Ranikhet would be made districts. Then, he stepped out of the Chief Minister's chair. He was replaced by CM Major General BC Khanduri (Seni) issued an order to set up new cities before going to the assembly elections in 2012.

Bjp was out of power in the same election. Vijay Bahuguna fell into the hands of the Congress government. The issue of new cities that heated up in the elections once again went into cold storage. When there was a demand for setting up of new districts from different parts of the state, a District Reorganisation Commission was constituted under the Chairmanship of the Chairman, Revenue Council. Commission demands proposals for new cities. Administrative experts say that an expenditure of Rs 1000 crore is estimated to be incurred to create a district and raise administrative frills for the same. This expenditure may also go up. An army of officers and staff, as well as offices and houses, will be spent in the districts.
