Aarushi Talwar murder case: CBI challenges the acquittal of Talwars in Apex Court

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has moved Supreme Court and challenged Allahabad High Court’s acquittal of Rajesh Talwar and Noopur Talwar in the 2008 Noida Double Murder Case. The couple was acquitted of the charges of murdering their daughter and house help Hemraj by Allahabad High Court last year in October citing the absence of evidence to prove them guilty as the reason.

CBI appealed to the apex court saying that High Court’s decision was wrong on many counts.

Aarushi Talwar was found dead in her room at the age of 13 in May 2008. Hemraj was considered as a suspect but the possibility was ruled out after he was found dead on the terrace of the same building next day. The murder happened 14 days before Aarushi’s birthday.

Hemraj’s wife Khumkala Banjade was the first one to challenge the High Court’s verdict. She said that though the High Court had accepted the fact of his husband’s murder, CBI cannot deny its responsibility to uncover the mystery surrounding the murder.

Earlier in 2013, a session court found the Talwar couple guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The verdict was overruled by Allahabad High Court and the couple was acquitted.

Rajesh Talwar and Noopur Talwar denied their role in the murder claimed they were the victims of faulty investigation and bad media coverage.
