Lucknow: A court in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow has sent Nikhat Bano, wife of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA Abbas Ansari, to three-day police custody. On February 10, Nikhat was arrested for illegally meeting her husband in the room of a deputy jailer in the Chitrakoot district. In this case, the jail superintendent and 7 other employees have also been suspended for negligence.

Special Judge Lokesh Varun, who is hearing cases registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, has sent Nikhat Bano to 3-day police custody. Another accused in the case, Nikhat's driver Niaz Ahmed, has been sent to 5-day police remand. While hearing the matter through video conferencing, the court said that the remand period will start from 10 am today (February 17). Investigating officer Harsh Pandey had applied for police remand of both the accused.

Pandey told the court in his application that Nikhat and Niaz have been arrested from Chitrakoot jail premises. Nikhat Bano had locked her iPhone and it is necessary to unlock it so that more information can be collected. Apart from her mobile phone, many objectionable things have been recovered from Nikhat Bano's possession. The police had also seized Saudi Arabian currency from Nikhat.
