Chennai: The Chennai High Court has announced that the final hearing in the embezzlement complaint case against former minister KT Rajendra Balaji will be held on August 5. Mahendran, a native of Tallakulam, had filed a case in the Madurai branch of the High Court in 2013 seeking action against former AIADMK minister Rajendra Balaji for accumulating excessive assets from 2011 to 2013.

These include the purchase of 35 acres of land at Devadanam near Rajapalayam for Rs 74 lakh.

The property value is Rs 6 crore and he has bought 2 houses in Tiruthangal area for Rs 23.33 lakh and Rs 4.23 lakh for Rs 75 crore and the market value of the property is more than Rs 1 crore. It was reported that Minister Rajendra Balaji has assets worth more than Rs 7 crore. The petition also sought action on my complaint as no action was taken against the Anti-Corruption Department in this regard. Judges M. Sathyanarayanan and R. Hemlata gave different verdicts in the case on March 4. Justice Satyanarayanan has ordered that a bribery case be registered against Minister Rajendrapalji for the alleged accumulation of assets. Judge Hemalatha dismissed Mahendran's case after a long gap, holding that there was no point in further investigation of the matter. 

On 5 August, the final hearing was adjourned and the matter was referred to the Chief Justice for decision on the trial by the third judge. Accordingly, M Nirmalkumar was appointed as the trial judge. Earlier in the day, when the matter came up for hearing today, time was sought from the government to file documents related to the case. After this, the judge adjourned the matter till August 5, saying that the final hearing of the case will be held as a direct hearing.
