Popular actress and folk singer Parvai Muniyamma passed away this morning after prolonged kidney disease, in which she suffered for many years. She was 83, her sons and grandchildren are alive. Born in Parvai near Madurai, Muniyamma gained immense popularity in the surrounding areas for her folk songs and later brought to light music troupe Laxman Shruti from Chennai.

Muniamma made her acting and singing debut in Tamil cinema in 2003 in the blockbuster film 'Dhul' starring Vikram and Jyothika, in which her performance as a brilliant grandmother garnered as much acclaim as her climax song "Singhal Pola". He has appeared with top actors in several films such as Vijay, Ajit, Dhanush, Simbu and Sivakarthikeyan and others.
