NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on February 10 a plea seeking a direction to the Central government to constitute a panel monitored by a retired Supreme court judge to inquire and investigate into the Hindenburg Research report which has made a slew of allegations against the  top business conglomerate led by industrialist Gautam Adani.

On Thursday (February 9), the petition's attorney, Vishal Tiwari, asked that the case be listed urgently before a bench presided over by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud.

Tiwari informed the committee, which was made up of Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala as well, that a separate appeal filed on the matter is slated to be heard on February 10.

He urged the bench to hear both his plea and the separate plea on Friday.

Tiwari has also requested instructions to create a special committee to oversee the sanction policy for loans of more than Rs 500 crore provided to large corporations in his public interest litigation (PIL).

Another PIL was submitted to the Supreme Court last week by attorney M. L. Sharma asking for the prosecution of short seller Nathan Anderson of the US company Hindenburg Research and his associates in India and the US for allegedly taking advantage of unsuspecting investors and the "artificial crashing" of the market value of Adani Group's stock. After Hindenburg Research levelled a slew of accusations against the corporate behemoth, including illegal transactions and share-price manipulation, the Adani Group equities have suffered on the stock exchanges.

The Adani Group has denied the accusations, claiming that it abides by all legal and disclosure obligations.
