New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has demanded Speaker Om Birla to remove the remarks made by BJP MP and Union Minister Smriti Irani in the House. Instead of expressing regret over his 'Rashtrapatni' statement, Chowdhury alleged that the way Smriti Irani has named President Draupadi Murmu is hurting her dignity.

Chowdhury said Smriti Irani was "shouting out President Murmu's name" during her address to the House. Adhir Ranjan has said in a letter to the Speaker, 'The way Smriti Irani was taking the name of the President in the House, it was not right. This was not in line with the Hon'ble President. She was shouting 'Draupadi Murmu' without using the respectful words Hon'ble, Madam or Mrs. Adhir Ranjan further said that this clearly amounts to insulting the office of the President. Therefore, I demand that the way Irani has addressed the President, she should be taken out of the proceedings of the House.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in his letter has also urged the Speaker that Sonia Gandhi had no role in this whole matter, so the entire statement mentioning her name can also be removed from the House. Let us tell you that before this, Adhir had also told Sonia Gandhi as his guardian. Regarding the way Sonia defended Adhir Ranjan in Parliament, Chowdhury had said today I felt that I am not an orphan, Sonia Gandhi is my guardian.
