Guwahati: Assam received praise from the Central Government in Parliament for getting rid of COVID-19, while on the other hand, a new problem has arisen for it. Assam is suffering from the outbreak of African swine flu. CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday ordered the killing of about 12,000 pigs in the areas severely affected by African swine fever and asked the officers to pay adequate compensation to the owners of the pigs. This information was given in an official statement.
A senior officer of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department told PTI that 18,000 pigs have been killed in 14 cities of the state so far due to the virus. The officer said that the work of killing pigs will be done in a radius of one km of the 30 badly affected areas in 14 affected cities and this work will be started immediately.
On the other hand, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the corona test data in the country has crossed the figure of 6.6 crores and 48,028 samples have been tested per 10 lakh population. Along with this, the number of infection rates in India is 8.52 per cent.
The Health Ministry said that good work is being done to curb coronavirus in 14 states and union territories, including Gujarat, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Assam, Haryana and Tripura, where the rate of infection is below the national average and at a population of 10 lakhs, the sample testing is high.
