The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a new directive for telecom companies. The main purpose of this directive is to stop spam calls, which are often made by unregistered companies. TRAI has shared information about this on its official website and X (formerly Twitter) today. Under this new rule, TRAI has ordered to disconnect the connections of companies making spam calls and blacklist them for two years.

Strict action on spam calls

TRAI has directed that no telecom company should give new connections to those companies which are responsible for spam calls. TRAI has also directed the companies to provide regular details to ensure that this new rule is implemented immediately. Its purpose is to provide relief to the users from spam calls and reduce the troubles caused by them.

Guidelines for marketing companies

TRAI has also issued clear instructions for unregistered telemarketing companies using bulk connections and telecom resources. TRAI has asked these companies to stop calls made for promotion, whether they are recorded by computer or made by customer care. Instructions have been given to stop these calls with immediate effect.

Compliance and reporting

TRAI has directed all telecom companies to follow the new rules. Along with this, the companies have been asked to provide information on the activities related to spam calls on the first and 16th of every month. This regular update will help TRAI to ensure that the instructions are being strictly followed.

last week's meeting

This new directive comes after an important meeting held by TRAI last week. Officials from companies like Airtel, Reliance Jio, Tata Teleservices Limited, BSNL, Vodafone Idea Limited, Qtel and V-Kan Mobile & Infra attended this meeting. In this meeting, ways to take effective action on spam calls were discussed. After this new decision of TRAI, it is expected that users will see a significant reduction in spam calls. This will give relief to users from the troubles caused by these unwanted calls and their phone call experience will be better.
