Big numbers are pouring in after the Russian attack on Ukraine. The people of Ukraine are leaving the country, the people of other countries who are trapped in Ukraine also want to leave the war-torn country as soon as possible. A large number of them are also Indian citizens. About 20 thousand students of India live and study in Ukraine. Evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine has become a big challenge in itself. Indian citizens entering Europe from Ukraine are now being sent back home under Operation Ganga. The same Indian students go to different cities of Ukraine to study medicine. After all, why did the students of India choose Ukraine to become doctors in such a huge number of numbers? To find the answer, we discussed with medical students who arrived in Budapest, Hungary, somehow escaping from Ukraine. Most of the students said that 15 to 20 lakh rupees are spent every year for studying from private medical colleges in India, but in Ukraine this education is much cheaper than in their country.

Let us tell you that in Ukraine, a total cost of 25 to 30 lakh rupees is spent on the study of MBBS for 5 years. However, admission in MBBS in Ukraine is not so easy either. Students living in different states of India pay one and a half to three lakh rupees to local agents, then they can get admission in Ukrainian university or medical college. However, this amount paid to the agent includes his commission as well as the cost of flight tickets and visas from India to Ukraine, Temporary Residence Card i.e. TRC charges.

Himanshu, who hails from Rajasthan, is a third year MBBS student. Himanshu came to Ukraine in 2019. Himanshu said that the entire expenditure of 5 years would cost him up to Rs 25 lakh, in which he would be able to become a doctor, which was his childhood dream. Himanshu's father is a teacher in a government school in Rajasthan and with great difficulty he sent Himanshu to Ukraine to become a doctor. Himanshu says that in 2019, there were a total of 28000 seats in the medical colleges of India and about 15 lakh children took the exam.
