After Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat orders COVID tests of Kumbh returnees

Amid the surge in COVID cases across the nation Kumbh Festival is celebrated. People from all over have gathered in Haridwar which has raised concern for states. In order to prevent everyone from this deadly virus, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has issued notice regarding all devotees returning to the state from Haridwar Kumbh Mela will have to undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test. The ones before entering their respective cities and villages have to get the test done. 

CM Rupani in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 said that no Kumbh returnee will be allowed to enter without taking an RT-PCR test. In Jamnagar, MR Rupani told to media reporters that"Collectors of all districts in Gujarat have been directed to keep a watch on the Kumbh Mela returnees and enforce a nakabandi' (security checking) to prevent their entry in their hometowns without undergoing an RT-PCR test." Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan discussed about pilgrims return from the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand should be monitored and get a RT-CPR test done.

In the meanwhile, Gujarat is already facing shortage of hospital beds in many cities. Rupani said 10,000 more beds will be added in the next 15 days. The cases reported in state in single-day were 8,920 fresh coronavirus positiv. Whereas 94 patients succumbed to the infection which raised the death toll to 5,170.
