England off-spinner Amar Virdi may be lacking in experience but he is hopeful that he will be able to make it to the squad for the three-match Test series against the West Indies starting on July 8. The 21-year-old, with just 23 matches experience in the first division, will have to beat the more experienced spinners like Jack Leach, Dom Bess, Matt Parkinson and Moin Ali to make it to the Test team. Virdi said on Friday, "Obviously I am here so I want to play Test cricket. I will keep doing my best to make a place in the team."

Virdi said that he is working hard to make a place in the team for the first Test. He said, "I really don't try to impress like this. I want to do my thing and want to be what I am. Instead of doing something else, I try to impress with my skills. I definitely want to play in the first Test match, or at least to confirm my place in the team." He added, "If I didn't want to do that, I probably shouldn't be here. I am very proud of myself that I have reached this point. The next stage for me is to make it to the test. For this I will continue to work hard." Virdi has taken 69 wickets in 23 matches of the first class.

He said that he plays aggressive cricket and is always at the bottom of the wicket. He said, "I think you need to be aggressive and always ready to take wickets. Maybe the pitches might not always suit you, but as a spinner try to stop the batsmen. Whatever the circumstances, I always keep an eye on wickets." If Virdi is successful in making a place in the team, he will become the third player from the Sikh community after Monty Panesar and Ravi Bopara.
