Puducherry: The statue of MG Ramachandran, founder of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, is covered with saffron cloth. After this, there has been a lot of uproar and now according to the information received, the party MLAs have protested on this.

AIADMK MLA A.K. Ambalagan said, "Strict action should be taken against the culprits". Apart from this, he, along with another party MLA Vaiyapuri Manikandan, has removed the statue and garlanded the statue. AIADMK sources said that "A police complaint has been filed in the case." Before this, there was a case of throwing saffron colour on the idol of social reformer EV Ramasamy Periyar in Sundaram, Coimbatore. The workers also protested fiercely."

MGR's name was Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran, but he is known as MGR. He has been an Indian politician and film actor. Apart from this, in Tamil Nadu, he had worked as a Chief Minister for 10 years. He was born on 17 January 1917 in Kandy City, Sri Lanka and on December 24, 1987, he breathed his last in Chennai. After the death of MGR in 1988, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
