The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has revised its academic calendar for the year 2020-21. As per the new schedule, the last date for starting the classes for existing students of technical courses other than those doing Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)/ Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) is September 1. Earlier, the AICTE had asked all technical institutions to commence classwork for existing students from August 17.

The apex technical body has extended the last date for granting affiliation to private colleges by the university or board till September 15. The universities were asked to complete the first round of counseling or admission for allotment of seats into various technical courses by October 20 and second round of counseling by November 1. The last date for cancellation of seats allotted in the technical courses except for PGDM/PGCM with full refund is November 10, while the last date up to which students can be admitted against vacancies is November 15.

The AICTE said classes can be started in online/offline (classroom) or blended mode i.e. both online and offline by duly following prescribed protocols related to Covid-19. However, the academic calendar may further change the subjects due to the conditions existing because of the Covid-19 pandemic and guidelines issued by the Ministries of Health, Home and Resource Development, it said. The institutions which have already started classes as per earlier AICTE calendar were asked to either postpone the classes or conduct special classes for students who would be required to appear for the final year examination of their graduation/diploma.
