HYDERABAD: On Friday, there was some tension near the historic Mecca Masjid here when some people attempted to hold a rally to condemn the attack on AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi in Uttar Pradesh.

Following Friday prayers at the mosque, some people, particularly young people, yelled shouts decrying the attack and denouncing the BJP and the Uttar Pradesh Police. They attempted to disrupt a protest, but after receiving counsel from community leaders, they dispersed peacefully.

To avoid any unexpected incidents, police have made extensive security precautions around the mosque and the old Charminar. As a precaution, more police officers were deployed in the sensitive area, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) in riot gear.

To ensure law and order, security was also tightened up in other areas of Hyderabad's old city and other cities in Telangana.

In the meantime, traders in the old city voluntarily shut down in protest at the attack on Owaisi. The normally bustling markets in the vicinity of Charminar appeared desolate. Traders protested the attack by flying black flags.
