Hyderabad, Telangana – In an eagerly expected announcement, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) unveiled its first list of candidates for the upcoming Telangana assembly elections, scheduled for November 30 across 119 constituencies.
Addressing a press gathering at Darussalam, Hyderabad, AIMIM's dynamic leader, Asaduddin Owaisi, disclosed the party's intention to contest in nine constituencies, officially revealing the names of six prospective candidates in this initial list.
The candidates and their respective constituencies are as follows:
Chandrayangutta – Akbaruddin Owaisi (the younger sibling of Asaduddin Owaisi)
Nampally – Mohammed Majid Hussain
Malakpet – Ahmed Balala
Yakutpura – Jaffar Hussain
Charminar – Mir Zulfiqar Ali
Karwan – Kausar Mohinuddin
In a noteworthy development, two incumbent senior MLAs, Ahmed Pasha Quadri and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, representing Nampally and Charminar constituencies, were omitted from the list, making way for former Hyderabad Mayor Majid Hussain and Mir Zulfiqar Ali to step into these electoral arenas.
Speaking on this subject, Asaduddin Owaisi clarified, "It was decided back in 2018 that Mumtaz Khan and Pasha Quadri would not be running this time."
The candidates for Bahadurpura, Rajendra Nagar, and Jubilee Hills will be unveiled in a forthcoming announcement, Owaisi stated. AIMIM's decision to compete for the Jubilee Hills seat is perceived as a strategic move, setting the stage for a face-off with former Team India cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, who is running on a Congress ticket.
Notably, Owaisi has encouraged voters to cast their ballots in favor of the Bahujan Republican Socialist (BRS) party in seats where AIMIM is not contesting.
AIMIM entered the political arena by participating in the united Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections in 1989, securing four seats out of around 35 contested. Following the formation of Telangana in 2014, AIMIM expanded its presence, competing in 35 seats and winning seven. In 2018, the party contested eight seats, winning seven.
As the Telangana assembly elections approach on November 30, the electoral journey promises to be an engaging one, with results to be revealed on December 3.
