New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader Ajay Maken has filed an application in the apex court to arrange for the rehabilitation of slums along the railway line in the national capital. The Supreme Court in a judgement on August 31 had ordered the removal of 48,000 slums along the railway line in Delhi within three months.

The court had said that there should be no political interference in the implementation of the order. The application filed by Maken has urged the Railways, the Delhi government and the Delhi Urban Housing Improvement Board to instruct them to arrange for relocation of the occupants before they can be removed. Maken has demanded that the Delhi Slum and JJ Rehabilitation Policy 2015 and the slum removal protocol be fully adhered to in this regard.

The application filed through lawyers Aman Panwar and Nitin Saluja said that after the August 31 order of the court, the Ministry of Railways has issued notices for demolition of slums and will be run on September 11 and 14. The application says that not all the policies of the Government of India and the Delhi government regarding survey and rehabilitation of their population have been followed before the removal of slums, nor was the fact brought to the notice of the court.
