Akhilesh Yadav, the Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief was elected as the leader of Samajwadi Party Vidhan Mandal Dal.
In a meeting of Samajwadi Party MLAs and MLCs, he was chosen as the combined leader of the party in both the state assembly and council. Azam Khan and Shivpal Singh Yadav, the party veterans were not there in the meeting.
In the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 result the Samajwadi party lost in front of the Bharatiya Janata party by a great margin.
