There are many actors in Bollywood who doesn't believe in winning Awards. Also there are some award functions which doesn't give nomination to some actors due to their negligence towards the award ceremonies.

Airlift director Raja Krishna Menon about the same, stated, "There’s no question about the quality of his performance in Airlift. He’s simply brilliant in Airlift. Neither he nor I — or for that matter the audience — need to endorse his performance with an award. I don’t think it’s worth even thinking about it. I’d rather focus on my work, and I’m sure Akshay feels the same."

Also the actor had faced backlash when he won the National Film Award for both Rustom and Airlift, "Just like I know I deserve this award. I’ve never felt more proud of my efforts than I do today. No amount of cyber-bashing will ever change this day for me. In fact, it has been quite entertaining to listen to people get their knickers in such a twist about something over which I had no control."

"But that’s also the power of your true fans. They will always want their own idol to be honoured the most. I will never disrespect the love people have for their favourite star. Whether they are with me or against me, I’m happy with what I’ve got and how I’ve got here. I never forget my humble beginnings. I’ll always remember I am a Bhatia before I became a Kumar," Akshay added.
