Amidst the news of establishing Shariat courts by All India Muslim Personal Law Board(AIMPLB) across the country to resolve all the matters under Islamic law instead of choosing the other courts in the nation, Zafaryab Jilani a member of AIMPLB claimed that the board has never proposed such setups.

“We have never talked about setting up Shariat courts in all districts across the country. Our motive is to set them up in places where it is required and where people want them,” he told to ANI.

While claiming that the matter is rounding up in politics due to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he said: “Shariah Board is not a court. BJP-RSS is doing politics in the name of Shariat courts,”

Contrarily Jilani claimed that his institute is working to spread awareness across the country with the help of workshops. He also expressed that the board is working in a responsible manner.

Noting point is that the set up for Shariat courts was announced by AIMPLB in the last month only and the announcement became a controversy as not only BJP but various Muslim boards also criticized the move.

On one side PP Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice stated that any court that would be established in India should be sanctioned by law whereas Wasim Rizvi from Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board slammed the decision while saying that it the move will create “Kashmir-like” in the whole country.
