Ahmedabad: Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Ahmedabad, Shabbir Ahmed Siddiqui, has urged Muslims to remain united ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The Shahi Imam recalled 2012 when a BJP candidate won from a Muslim-dominated seat. Apart from this, the Shahi Imam has informed that efforts are also being made to make Muslims vote unitedly through social media. Shabir Ahmed has given this statement on Saturday (December 3).
Speaking to the media, Imam Shabbir has told that due to the division of Votes of Muslims, the Jamalpura seat of Ahmedabad was also captured by the BJP in the year 2012. According to Imam, the reason for this was the division of Muslim votes among themselves. This time, Shabbir has said that Muslims should make the one who represents them victorious. Shabbir himself will also cast his vote in the second phase of elections on December 5, 2022, in Ahmedabad. In 2012, Congress had given a ticket to a Muslim candidate from Jamalpura's seat. A local leader Sabir Kabaliwala also contested against him. Kabaliwala got around 30,000 votes. In this tussle, the BJP candidate won by 6000 votes. Once again Kabaliwala is contesting from the same Jamalpura. This time he is a candidate from Owaisi's party AIMIM.
Questioning the entry of Owaisi's party AIMIM in the Gujarat elections, Imam Shabbir has asked what he is going to do in the assembly. According to the Shahi Imam, Muslims have enmity with the BJP, so at such a time they should not have enmity with the Congress. Imam has openly appealed to the Muslims to unite and vote in favor of the Congress.
