Kokhrajhar: As per the allegations leveled by Aflagaon Village Council Development Committee (VCDC), Ramphalbil Samabai Samiti is distributing 'plastic rice' to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. The people of Aflagaon village have alleged that 'plastic rice' has been mixed in the Public Distribution System (PDS) rice being given to them. The 'plastic rice' has been mixed with regular rice which is provided to below poverty line families at Re 1 per kg every month. The families have reportedly stopped consuming plastic mixed rice.

The Ramphalbil Samabai committee has been called for supply of plastic-type rice mixed with regular rice by BPL families living in Aflagaon, Belguri, Podmabil and South Aflagaon region, claiming that consumption of such rice can harm their health. will ruin it. BPL families also reported that they have got this kind of rice this month and it has never happened before. The District Food and Civil Supplies Department provides rice to the committee which has to be shared among the BPL cardholders.

As per the description done by the families, the plastic rice is said to be bigger in size than the regular rice. When ground, the rice turns into granules and vaporizes with a foul smell when cooked. The BPL families have demanded a fair probe into the matter.
