Lucknow: On Tuesday, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav appointed Amar Singh as party general secretary. Then Mulayam in a letter addressed his friend and expressed self-belief that he would play an important role in growth of SP in the run-up to Uttar Pradesh state elections, which is scheduled early next year.

Mulayam wrote, “You are appointed the general secretary of Samajwadi Party. I hope you will play an important role in the upcoming Assembly polls and in strengthening the Samajwadi Party”.

Earlier, before resigning from all party posts in January 2010, Singh was SP’s national general secretary and member of the central parliamentary board.Singh made a comeback in May this year, becoming the SP’s nominee for a Rajya Sabha seat. Singh was introduced in the party’s national executive committee as a member in July.
