New Delhi: Two Sorbet products of Patanjali may be prosecuted in the US. The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), the U.S. health regulator, in its report, said that additional pharmacies and dietary claims in labels on these Sarbat are different for both countries. The regulator has found different claims for India and the US on the label of Patanjali's two Sarbhats.

The USFDA investigating officer said that Patanjali Ayurveda Limited's Haridwar plant unit was inspected on May 7 and 8 last year. We found in our inspection report that products in domestic (India) and international (US) markets, namely 'Bell Sharbat' and 'Rose Sharbat', were being sold from Patanjali's brand. There are additional pharmacological and dietary claims on Indian labels, while there are separate claims about the US.

On the other hand, the Patanjali group has not responded to the report so far. Food security laws in the US are much stricter than India's. In case of violation of rules, USFDA can confiscate the entire consignment of that product. The company could also be fined five million dollars. The company official could also face up to three years in prison. If the regulator found in its investigation that the company had sold products by mis-publicizing it in the US, the USFDA could issue a warning letter to it to stop importing production. Not only that, the federal court can initiate a criminal case against the company by passing a restraining order against it.
