Kabul: The United States will pay $144 million to help those facing a serious humanitarian crisis under the Taliban regime, a terror group in Afghanistan. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken informed on Thursday that the aid will be provided directly to independent international and non-governmental humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Immigration Organization (IOM) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

'The fund will provide direct assistance to more than 180 million needy Afghans in the region, including Refugees from Afghanistan seeking asylum in neighbouring countries,' Blinken added. At the same time, total U.S. humanitarian aid for Afghan refugees in Afghanistan and in the region increased to $474 million in 2021, Blinken added. Which is the highest financial assistance given by any nation.

"This help will enable our partners to provide necessary life security, food security, essential health care, cold-like help, other equitable and emergency food support in view of the lack of health care, coronavirus, drought, malnutrition and growing humanitarian needs in the coming winter season," Blinkon said. 'This humanitarian help will benefit the people of Afghanistan and not the Taliban, whom we will continue to hold responsible for their commitments.'
