New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized former Congress President Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's caste during a speech at a Business summit on Saturday. Gandhi had previously claimed during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on February 8 that PM Modi was not born into the OBC (Other Backward Class) category.

Responding to Gandhi's remarks, Shah accused the Congress of twisting facts and creating controversies. He clarified that PM Modi's OBC status was recognized by the Gujarat government, which was under Congress rule at the time. Shah emphasized that PM Modi's community was listed as OBC in 1994, during the tenure of a Congress-led government in Gujarat. He highlighted PM Modi's efforts in giving constitutional recognition to OBC communities and implementing reservations for OBCs in central government jobs.

Shah also criticized the Congress for its alleged neglect of OBC communities and claimed that the party had historically been anti-OBC. He refuted Gandhi's argument regarding the proportion of OBC secretaries in central government ministries, stating that most secretaries were commissioned during the Congress regime. Furthermore, Shah addressed the historic resolution on Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha being discussed in Parliament. He praised PM Modi's dedication to ensuring the construction of the Ram Mandir and emphasized the importance of the moment for the nation.

Regarding the recent Bharat Ratna awards, Shah highlighted the contributions of the awardees to the country's development. He asserted that the awards given during the Congress regime were either obligatory or favoritism towards individuals from the Congress "family." In summary, Shah's remarks underscored the BJP's defense of PM Modi's OBC status, criticism of the Congress's handling of OBC issues, and reflection on the significance of recent political developments in India.
