New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has once again made a big statement regarding the Citizenship Amended Act (CAA). He said in Kolkata on Friday that the CAA would apply in any case. Law has its place and this is the resolve of the Central Government. Shah reached West Bengal on a two-day tour.
In Kolkata, he reviewed the preparations of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming assembly elections and also met local leaders. West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has been in opposition to CAA. Mamata had even said that to implement CAA in Bengal, you will have to go through my dead body. Mamata had attacked the central government and said that if you want to sack my government then do it, but I will never let the CAA be implemented in Bengal.
Amit Shah has given a direct challenge to Mamata Banerjee by giving a statement on CAA in Kolkata. Now it will be interesting to see how Mamata reacts to Shah's statement. She has also taken a pledge not to allow CAA to be implemented in Bengal. Mamata had said that we are all citizens here. Our ideal is harmony in all religions. We will not let anyone leave Bengal. We have to maintain peace.
