JAMMU:  Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to address a historic public rally in Jammu Kashmir's Rajouri city on Tuesday where he is expected to announce Scheduled Tribe reservation for the Pahari community.

Overexcited Pahari community members have begun arriving in Rajouri town, where tight security is being kept around the event site at the town's bus stop. They are coming from various locations inside Rajouri and the neighbouring Poonch district.

At the Raj Bhavan, where he spent the night, Shah met delegations of Paharis, Gujjars/Bakarwals, Dogras, and Sikhs in the evening.

Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Monday at 8:00 p.m. When Shah arrived in Jammu, he tweeted, "travelled for three days to get to Jammu & Kashmir. I'm enthusiastic to communicate with the people of J&K through the use of various programmes ". He said in another tweet, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Government holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday bearing in mind his efforts in bringing Jammu and Kashmir under the national umbrella."

The Union home minister will offer prayers at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the Reasi district before taking off for Rajouri. He will dedicate eight bridges, 10 electricity distribution/transmission projects, 48 highways totaling 269.41 kilometres, 14 urban development projects, and more in J&K.

He will also lay the foundation for 41 water supply schemes funded by the Jal Jeevan Mission. He will organise the distribution of Land Pass Books and introduce 1,000 cooperatives, 225 citizen-focused online services, and the second iteration of the District Good Governance Index for the fiscal year 2021–2022.

At 3.30 p.m. today, Shah will meet with top BJP figures at the Jammu Convention Center. At 4.30 p.m., he will introduce new initiatives at the same location.

The BJP leaders are anticipated to inform Shah of the possible effects the award of ST status to Paharis will have on the party's chances of winning elections.

Around a dozen Assembly districts, including Poonch, Mendhar, Surankote, Kalakote, Nowshera, Rajouri, Thanna Mandi, Budhal, and Sunderbani in the Jammu division, and Uri, Karnah, Gurez, and Trehgam in the Kashmir division, are thought to be impacted by the awarding of ST status to Paharis. Around six o'clock this evening, he will go for Srinagar, where he has a similarly hectic agenda.
