Bangalore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are slated to visit Karnataka in early April, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday, stressing that no conversations about the much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle will take place during their travels.

Shah would attend the 116th birth anniversary of Sri Shivakumara Swami, a prominent Lingayat religious institution in the state, at Siddaganga Mutt. When former chief minister B S Yediyurappa was in trouble, the mutt threw their support behind him.

"Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah, who is working to reform the cooperative sector, will be visiting the state on April 1 to attend a large meeting related to the 'Ksheerabhivruddi bank' that we are planning to launch, aimed at giving a financial boost to the dairy sector, which will increase farmers' income and provide them financial support," Bommai said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit the state on April  Bomma saidi, but the visit is still tentative and has not been entirely finalised.

"They are visiting the state for government programmes, the cabinet will not be discussed in Bengaluru," he said the much-anticipated extension of his cabinet would be discussed during the visits. I' will  fly to Delhi and discuss it whenever the leadership calls." After the Assembly elections in five states, there is rising pressure on the Chief Minister to extend or rejig his cabinet.

Some legislators have even suggested that the Karnataka Cabinet be overhauled soon, a la Gujarat, to make room for new faces ahead of the assembly poll next year. The State Cabinet now has 30 members, including the Chief Minister, as opposed to the sanctioned number of 34.
