Paris: The parents of a senior at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York, said their son had been missing since last month while he was studying abroad in France.

The family of Ken DeLand Jr. started a website to disseminate information about their missing son.

His family said they last heard from their son on November 27 on the popular messaging app WhatsApp, when he had left his host's home and was on his way to Valence, France. According to his father, the last time his son's phone pinged was on 30 November.

While abroad, DeLand Jr. was in "constant communication" with his family, according to his father, Kenneth DeLand, who also spoke to "Good Morning America" in an interview that aired Monday.

Almost every day, and sometimes every other day, he would contact me," DeLand Sr. recalled.

The 22-year-old was last seen walking inside a sporting goods store on December 3 wearing a red jacket, scarf, gray beanie, blue pants, black backpack and sneakers, according to a statement from his family posted on the website .

DeLand Jr. is officially listed as missing by the French authorities,

DeLand Jr. was enrolled in a study abroad program run by the American Institute for Foreign Study while attending the University of Grenoble Alpes (AIFS).

“His safety is of concern to many, including AIFS, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement who have launched a search. We are looking forward to Kenneth's speedy and safe return and wish both his family and the university In touch" was reported by CNN AIFS.

According to DeLand Sr., a contact with the program contacted the family and said he did not attend class, which was unusual.

The senior DeLand described Kenny as a young, friendly college student. "He enjoys traveling. So, he has enjoyed and is looking forward to this trip a lot."
